Kahlil Gibran, Shepherd
Kahlil Gibran, Shepherd
Kahlil Gibran (Jibran Khalil Jibran) 1883-1931 was born in Lebanon and excelled in the Arabic language. But his poetry was in English he was the best-selling American poet of the 20th century. The result was that Gibran's poetry had to be translated into his mother tongue.
In yet another twist we present here a translation into Persian poetry.
The original English language text by Kahlil Gibran reads:
Your fear of death is but the trembling of the shepherd when he stands before the king whose hand is to be laid upon him in honour. Is the shepherd not joyful beneath his trembling, that he shall wear the mark of the king? Yet is he not more mindful of his trembling?
Persian translation by Dr. Mahdi Maghsoudi
ترس شما از مرگ، لرزش جان آن چوپانی است که در برابر پادشاه ایستاده است تا دست تفقدی بر شانه اش بگذارد.
