Magnolia Blossom

There is a large magnolia tree in front of our house, and many more growing in town and in the surrounding forests. The leaves are dark green and shiny with an underside of reddish brown. The blooms are large and creamy and from a painter's point of view have a similarity in shape and luminescence to lotus blossoms. Instead of resting on the water, these blooms nestle in the dark green foliage are stand out on sturdy stalks. I am sure you can tell that this is a subject matter I return to time and again.
