Marvel, A Garden Among the Flames
Marvel, A Garden Among the Flames
This card features original Arabic calligraphy by Joon of the famed lines by the Arab Andalusian Sufi Muslim scholar and poet Ibn 'Arabi (1165-1240 CE)
In translation the Arabic reads:
Marvel,
a garden among the flames!
My heart can take on any form:
A meadow for gazelles, a cloister for monks,
For the idols, sacred ground,
Ka’ba for the circling pilgrim,
The tables of the Torah, the scrolls of the Qur’án.
I profess the religion of love;
wherever its caravan turns along the way,
that is the belief,
the faith I keep.
Ibn ‘Arabi (1165-1240)
The Interpreter of Desires (Tarjumān al-Ashwāq)
translation by Michael Sells

(For those who are looking for Persian poetry, note that 'Ibn Arabi was influenced by and in turn influenced the Persian poets. This particular poem is of such importance that I thought it important to be listed even for those searching for Persian language literature)
